EMILY NOVAMENTE

I Died For Beauty But Was Scarce

by Emily Dickinson.

I died for beauty but was scarce
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room.
He questioned softly why I failed?"For beauty,"
I replied."And I for truth, the two are one;
We brethren are," he said.
And so, as kinsmen met a night,
We talked between the rooms,
Until the moss had reached our lips,
And covered up our names.

Eu morri por falta de beleza
Eu morri por falta de beleza
Ajustada no túmulo,
Quando quem morreu de verdade foi um mentiroso
No quarto adjacente.
Ele questionou-me suavemente por que falhou?
"Pela beleza", eu respondi.
"E eu pela verdade, os dois são um só;
Nós somos irmãos", disse ele.
E assim, como parentes reunidos numa noite,
Conversamos entre as salas,
Até que o musgo alcançou os nossos lábios,
E cobriu os nossos nomes.
